He Wasn’t Just A Dog, He Was A Family Member

“Ok, don’t freak out”, said the pet sitter, “But Bella has gotten out.”

We were newlyweds on our honeymoon, when we got that call. I was already feeling guilty about leaving Bella with a petsitter. We usually take her on vacation, but it was our honeymoon, and we were traveling out of the country.

I hated leaving her behind for the same reasons that all pet owners worry about. And now it had happened!

It was the worst feeling

I felt like I failed as a doggy mom. And I was panicked trying to find my girl. We cut our honeymoon short and searched non-stop for months, but we received no closure.

Once the reality set in that she was gone, my husband Jeff asked me if I wanted to get another dog. “No,” I said, “I won’t. I can’t.”

The pain that I felt during what was supposed to be the happiest time of our lives – as newlyweds, was almost unbearable. I cried myself to sleep every night for weeks.

One day, my husband gave me a hug. He felt my stiffness as I tensed up in anticipation of hearing his question again. So this time, he phrased it differently, “Babe, if we get a new dog, he’ll make our marriage happier and Bella can still live in your heart forever.”

I looked up at my normally very logical husband and marveled at the emotional maturity he had in that moment. Even though Bella was my dog, he knew losing her was hurting our marriage. He knew that the happiness I experienced by loving Bella far outweighed the horrific pang of loss I felt now that she was gone.

And he wanted to enjoy the happiness himself, that a dog brought to me.

So, we rescued a new dog — a beautifully imperfect little Bulldog named Charlie — and my husband was right. The joy he brings to our marriage overrides anything else.

But this time we protected our new family member with a tracking device, so we’d never have to go through the pain of losing Charlie before his time, like we had with Bella.

dawg | Demo SiteIt’s a genius little device called the XY Find It. It’s only about the size of a quarter and attaches to Charlie’s collar.

It uses bluetooth to keep tabs on Charlie and has a replaceable battery that lasts up to 5 years!

How Does It Work?

The XY Find It can track both short and long range. For anything within 300 feet, it uses bluetooth, anything more than 300 feet it uses Crowdsource GPS – more about that below.

We can set an ‘out of bounds’ alert. Our property is 226 feet. So if Charlie ever leaves the property, we know the second it happens with an alert on our phone. Talk about peace of mind!

If he gets past that range (if he gets out when we’re at work for example) and roams miles from home, the device uses the XY Find It network to pinpoint Charlie’s location on a map.

find-keys2 | Demo SiteThis is where the device really shines. If anyone else with the XY Find It app on their phone gets within range of Charlie, we get an alert with his last known location.

You get the benefit of GPS, without having to pay a monthly fee like other GPS-based trackers. Those fees can be as much as $40 a month!

And the XY Find It network of users is HUGE.
